Tiny Tuesday ...
... Eastern Black Swallowtail Caterpillar.
We had an exciting outing today going toward Palmerton to check out the wild fire that's been burning there for a few days now. Richard had read that they were using a helicopter to douse the flames. It was interesting watching the helicopter dip his "Bambi Bucket" into the river and then take off toward the fire. This was done over and over again in the short time we were there watching. I shot some video with my camera but haven't edited it yet. And once I figure out how to do this I will post a link to Facebook!
When we got home I got out the macro so as to take some pictures of our last swallowtail caterpillar munching away on the parsley. We are surprised that this one is still eating ... he/she should have pupated long ago like the rest of the bunch. We currently have 18 swallowtail chrysalids in our nursery that will over-winter with us and emerge sometime next Spring. It's always something to look forward to.
