River Erme Valley
I very much enjoyed the hospitality of good friends at their new Ivybridge home and after a long lunch we walked for a couple of miles beside the Erme river just north of the town. Resplendent in Autumn colours the tall trees flank the sometimes deep gorge carrying the fast flow off of Dartmoor. The second extra views the viaduct carrying God's Wonderful Railway (GWR ) main line from Paddington to Penzance. originally built by Brunel the viaduct was rebuilt in 1892 when the previous broad gauge was replaced by standard gauge. It is just over 100 feet tall, has 11 bays and covers a distance of just over 250 yards
