Meet
Rather irritating day waiting in for a boiler man who didn’t arrive til 4.45pm
However got the summons to take Mater to Spire Murrayfield for a CT scan for her insurance claim. Mum has somehow wangled the local Kelso volunteer driver service to be her personal taxi, paying buttons to abuse their good work. So poor Cammy appeared dropping mum off and mum told him to sit in my driveway to wait for her ( 2 hours minimum)
Lightbulb. Cammy would you like to sit on my sofa with t’telly and a date and walnut cake, just let the boiler man in if he comes. Cammy was happy ( as was I)
Ten years ago this was my workplace so very very strange to be back. Not much has changed and some of the old faces there too.
Nor has mum changed. Demanded a poor bewildered receptionist photocopy the Codeword in the Scotsman for her, thankfully the girl said just take it so she did, and the girls pen, and proceeded to sit in silence furiously completing it. Cheers for that, be nice to chat, but hey ho, must do the Codeword.
Then discovered that the X-ray she needed could only be done at Shawfair, so back in the bypass to the other end of town. Love being a taxi driver.
Shawfair was where I worked for four years from 2015 so again another blast from the past. More so as I bumped into my old maverick boss who was clearly confused as to why I was entering the building. Awkward but funny.
X-ray completed back to the house, I felt as quick as we could to let Cammy get back home. Oh no, mum needed a cup of tea and scoffed all of the rest of the D and W cake. grrrr
Poor Cammy his face was like fizz, as was mine.
No thanks for giving up my afternoon and I guess not for Cammy either
‘Well he did volunteer’ I quote. I didn’t only perhaps by birthright I guess. grrr
He and I may elope.
Straight out to an evening meeting at The Scotsman Hotel. Bizarrely bumped into my exGP pal in the loos who was on the sauce, and also couldn’t get over the randomness of our meeting.
Interesting evening. Large investment in the private ophthalmology market with a new venture, Clarity, opening in the New Year. An ethical and financially more viable prospect for patients currently waiting over 90 weeks for surgery on the NHS. And that was before they shut the Eye Pavilion. The word on the street from them who know is at least a year not the advertised 6 months closure.
More promising times for optometrists with few options for their patients.
Home late , bed then bloody mum induced insomnia!
Grr
