Terrier
Someone made the grave error of encouraging me to post more model railway inspired blips. You'll be sorreeee.
This is one of my OO scale Hornby "Terriers". The prototypes were small 0-6-0 tank locomotives, intended for service on short branch lines. Britain started producing these from the mid 1870s. They were very successful and a good many of them were built.
A limited number were imported into NSW and saw service through the 1880s, 1890s and 1900s. However given the generally longer runs required and the limited stores of water and coal that could be carried aboard, they were ultimately replaced by larger locomotives. The terriers ended their days on marshalling yard duty.
I understand that a few of these old fellas have been restored for service on the Isle of Wight.
