Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Memorial

I diverted my lunchtime walk to St George’s Field for a change.

The fire brigade memorial is one of many monuments scattered throughout this desanctified cemetery. It commemorates those who lost their lives while on active duty for the fire service, in Leeds, between 1892 and 1930.

Contemplating memorials while the world burns, perhaps.

Later, I went to see Oysterband on their farewell tour at the City Varieties. I last saw them at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal in 1988 (an excursion of the Lancaster Uni Folk Soc). Sadly this wasn’t one of the shows where June Tabor joined them, but it was still good to spend time with such experienced  musicians and songwriters reviewing their long career.
