Planting for the Future
Bulb-planting in the fall is always an act of hope. This year, it becomes a form of therapy for me. John helped of course. Several years ago, a friend in the village was diagnosed with a terminal illness. She was selling her house and moving in with a daughter. I stopped by to visit her and found her planting bulbs in her yard. When I asked her why, clearly she wasn't going to see them bloom in the spring, she said, "they will give joy to someone." I always think of her in the fall when I plant bulbs but even more so this year. I watched Kamala's concession speech yesterday and it move the huge crowd, and me too, to tears. We are all devastated but determined. She quoted Martin Luther King, “Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” America made a very bad choice on Tuesday but although she conceded the election, she, we, will never concede the fight. We must mobilize, organize and stay engaged. He's won the battle but he will not win the war. (If you want to listen to her amazing speech, here's a link.)
