Hope

It's been a rubbish couple of days.

I've been reading this really excellent book by the current President of the New Economics Foundation, it's a brilliant summary of why the world is in such a state (thanks neoliberalist capitalism!) but also how it can be changed for the better.  He covers a lot of ground and a big part of me wants him to just run the country (not that I htink he would as it's not really his thing).

Wanted to share a quote from the book about education, which I think applies to us all:
"The value of education must lie not only in its ability to equip people to earn money, but to make a world that is worth living in... We need to equip our young people to deliberate well about issues affecting their own communities and nations, as well as others, ensuring they have the capacity to examine, reflect, argue and debate, deffering blindly neither to tradition nor to authority."

Very well worth a read, get it on your Christmas list.
