Desert Squirrel

Decorated fencing

I have more sunrise pics from this morning, but there wasn't enough cloud to make them really interesting. The patterns on the sea were attractive, though.

But something different for today. We went into the city today, the first time we've been in the square since before the February 2011 earthquake. It is very strange to see so few buildings still standing, but there is lots of building activity going on too, and some still to be demolished. The cathedral looks very sad in spite of the 'living doorway' that has been created in the fence surrounding it. You can't go through it, but the walls of the 'doorway' are covered in low-growing plants.

It is cheering to see how people are trying to make the place more attractive in spite of the devastation everywhere. Planters, painted walkways, and these decorated fences.
