REMEMBERING ON SOMBRE SATURDAY

Hello Lovely Blippers,

You will see that there are only two of us here today, but that is because it is a sombre day of remembrance and we felt that too many of us might be irreverent for the solemnity of the occasion and we think that dear Admirer would agree with us.

Earlier in the week, when Mr. HCB was out in the garden doing some work, he told Mrs. HCB that he had found some poppies blooming - they were both very surprised to see them at this time of the year, but Mrs. HCB was pleased, because she thought we could have our own little Service of Remembrance in the garden.

She thought it would be best for only two of us to be here, so here we are - and we have been thinking about all those who died in the various Wars - and of course, some are still going on, which is very sad.  We know that both Mr and Mrs HCB get upset when they watch the News on the television but of course, in the First and Second World Wars, there was nothing like that to let people know what was happening.

In fact, one of Mr. HCB’s Uncles was killed in action on 10th July 1944, just over a month after D Day, which was on 6th June 1944, and is buried in a cemetery in Banneville-la-Campagne.  Two of their friends from Church went over to France in June and when they knew Uncle Ernest was buried there and Mrs. HCB was able to give them the grave number, they went to the cemetery and took lots of photographs.  You can see part of the cemetery in the little photograph at the bottom right and Ernest’s grave too - it was very kind of them because although Mr. And Mrs. HCB would love to visit, they may not be able to, so to have several photographs is so poignant.  Sadly, they cannot be shown to Ernest’s widow because she died a couple of years ago, aged 102!

We are pleased to have been able to honour all those who gave their lives for the freedom  of so many, and probably some of you have relatives who were killed in either the First or Second World Wars or perhaps in other wars, and will also be remembering them this weekend.

As we close, we will remind you, as we always do, to BE KIND - because it is the right thing to do - and you will never lose out by doing a kindness to someone.

Have a great week and hopefully the rest of the Gang will be with us next week.

Love from Leighton and P C Plod xx
