Acorns and oak leaves
Friday
We had to get a reasonably early start this morning, since Tony our heating and cooling guy was arriving about 8.30 to start work on fitting a new furnace, which is in the basement, and air conditioning unit which is outside. Of course, this meant we were without heating all day, but fortunately after a cool start, it warmed up under sunny skies, so it was OK. He got straight to work disconnecting and removing the old one, then about 9.30 the new units were delivered directly to the house,, so he had someone to help him get the new unit downstairs, and more to the point get the old one which is bigger upstairs! He was working all day till about 4 pm, by which time the furnace was installed, just leaving the air conditioning unit till tomorrow morning. Since we were both home all day, I put together some acorns I gathered on our walk yesterday, and put them together with some oak leaves from our garden, to make an autumnal display.
In the evening we went out for some Indian food, then came home and watched an interesting movie that Jen had recommended to us, Temple Grandin, from 2010, which tells the true story of an autistic woman, who despite her extreme social awkwardness, went to college, got a masters followed by a doctorate, and became a renowned expert in the field of human livestock handling, very much a man’s field at the time.
