a lifetime burning

Greenfinches

It was an absolute delight when, for about an hour this morning, the clouds thinned enough for some weak hazy brightness to break through - for the first time this month.  The birds seemed to like the conditions and there was far more activity this morning than there has been for ages.  Shortly after I took this shot we got a video call from our son and our 8 week old grandson, so I broke off the photography.  The grandson seems to have mastered smiling which was a joy to see.

As we were on the call, a greater spotted woodpecker landed on the feeder ... but I'd much rather see the grandson smiling at Cathy and I on a video call :-) But these things are sent to try us :-)
