Today's the day ......................... for remembrance

This is what I was really looking for yesterday when I came across the Motorist's Record Book - letters written by my Mother to my Father between the years 1943 - 45.

At that time, which I think was not long after they had met each other, my Mother was a newly qualified teacher of modern languages at Wishaw High School - and my Dad was in the Navy.  It was, of course, the latter years of the 2nd World War - and their lives, like millions of other ordinary people, had been completely disrupted by it.

I haven't read them all, by any means - but I've read enough to have an insight into how things were for them and what was important to them.  It's a rare privilege that somehow they have managed to survive the eighty or so years since they were written, and that I am able to hold them in my hand.

It's a very personal reminder, on this day of National Remembrance, of events that happened, now so long ago ......................
