Ca' the Yowes
A misty moisty day with fog and sunshiny glimmers. I went down to the Kitchen in the morning, an egret and a heron fishing in the fog, and out at sea voices - swimming around the island were three people with bright red floats, Later, we went down to Farranamanagh Lake - the yowes were paddling in front of the stump of the old castle and the whooper swans were in residence, masquerading as drowned Spanish princes (two young men were sent here to study, drowned in the lake and were forever turned into swans) . I thought of this tune - Scottish and written by Robbie Burns and sung here in extraordinary manner by Kathleen Ferrier It seemed to fit the ethereal and slightly supernatural feeling of the day. The sunshine did come out briefly and now the temperature has plummeted and it feels delightfully fresh and cold.
