Candlelight

I ended up watching the Remembrance Festival last night.  As usual it is a bit schmaltzy and OTT but I was surprised how much it affected me.  The line up of WW2 veterans including the Wren who'd down D-Day Comms made me think of my won mother and also made me think how few fold now are in my situation, having a mother who served in WW2. I was brought up on stories of the war, it had such a profound effect on both my parents, although my mother probably came closer to the action with the V bombs in London. Then the coverage of Afghanistan triggered me with memories of autumn 2006 when #1 son was in Basra, Iraq. There was nothing I could do other than bury the worry.  The other notable thing about the event was that the muster was mainly reserves.  I left at the religious service (wondering at the Bishop of London's headgear!) so didn't see the cascade of poppies.

I'd had a terrible night's sleep and resisted getting up at 4, 5, 6 a.m.  But I did do a couple of hours work when I did get up and watched the start of the Cenotaph and shared the 2 minutes silence.

There was more drama next door at coffee time.  G had lost his phone yesterday and they'd looked everywhere.  Luckily after the chat he went and had another look in the car, and found the phone. Phew!  Y was understandably a bit hyper especially as the Hibs lost yesterday.

Home I changed a bed and thought about going out but it was a bit gloomy so I did some more work and then read an email which puts a completely different spin on the future.  Couple of calls to S about next steps and also to A and I.  The end may be nigh.

I had a fiddle with the front room TRV which is playing up and then sat in the candlelight and fell asleep during 'Antiques Roadshow'. Sensibly bed beckoned!
