Duck Down

On our way to our holiday cottage in Battle (near Hastings), we stopped for lunch and a walk around Bodiam Castle. The weather was glorious and I wandered over the moat to look around the ruins.

Guarding the entrance was a flock of ducks, mostly asleep on the job or distracted from their duties with preening. I thought I'd get past unnoticed but there were sentries on duty and I was fixed with an icy stare. I must have passed the scrutiny though as I was granted permission to proceed.
