Poppies

Today were the Remembrance ceremonies at the British cemetery in Elvas - a service in the small chapel led by Rev Fran Le Blanc, followed by readings and the "Last Post" bugled at 11 o'clock, the two minute silence, then "Reveille", laying of wreaths, then drinks and petiscos in the olive grove, then a posh lunch, followed by the AGM of the Friends of the British Cemetery.

Eileen kindly collected us in her old Toyota Hillux (much like we had in Brazil) so I wouldn't have to drive. I was commissioned to take photos, over a hundred in the end.

It's a long time since I've seen so many men wearing cuff links. Even Mike looked smart in a jacket and tie. And lots of military uniforms. Some amazing folk, great conversations.

War is such a waste of (mostly young) life; why, oh why do we keep on engaging in it?
