Everyday I Write The Book

On the bridge

Nice walk with Mr and Mrs Bear and their dog this afternoon, followed by coffee in a posh cafe in Ripley. Mr Bear was caught looking surprised on the bridge by the golf course and I think looks like a character out of John Le Carre waiting to be exchanged at a checkpoint manned by George Smiley.

Work began ‘up top’ today but we had a nasty surprise. The roof men said it was "pretty bad up there" and recommend replacing the tiles on the front side which of course is a lot of extra dosh. Not surprised to be fair. It is a very old roof.

Work on the flat roof of the dormer meant a symphony of noises which I thought sounded quite musical in a very radical kind of way. So I did a short recording which I think could rival the later works of Arnold Schoenberg. You can listen to it here although TSM was not impressed. She said it was no laughing matter, particularly as our bathroom lights have stopped working.

Nice long video call with TGR in Canada. She is fuming at the state of the world after the latest Trump debacle. In a revolutionary mood in fact.

Still tired from yesterday’s very hard day. But a nice couple of long train journeys tomorrow so a chance to unwind and watch the world go by. And to read The Safe Keep, my last Booker read before the winner is announced tomorrow night. It’s about Dutch lesbians after World War Two and the strange theft of small objects. Apparently it has a twist in the end…
