Mother & Child

I was randomly Googling a few weeks ago when I came across aFlickr image of a nearby statue

information is almost non-existent on the webby thing...

"Mother and Child," designed by Thomas Wright is presented. The sandstone sculpture commissioned by Darlaston Urban District Council and has been installed in 1958 at Darlaston in Staffordshire, England. The symmetry and frontality of the sculpture depicts the influence of early 20th-century primitivism.

Thomas Wright is also the creator of George & the dragon this pebble and concrete statue as you enter Darlaston

I cn't find any image where the anatomically correct little boy also has both hands - that's the problem with sandstone - nor can I find any reason why this statue was placed in the church grounds

but...having seen it for the first time I liked it!!
