CONTRAIL

This CONTRAIL, I saw this morning,
looks tiny, but it is not. There have been many condensation trails in the sky lately,
& I wondered what causes them & why
they get a bad rap.

So here is what I learned:
they are a line-shaped cloud that forms
behind an aircraft. This cloud is formed when water vapor condenses & freezes
around small particles in the aircraft exhaust.

When there are a lot of them criss-crossing the sky, they can form human made
cirrus clouds that can contribute to climate change. This is because they can last minutes or up to more than a day, which traps energy in the earth’s atmosphere, increasing the warming effect.

That TINY looking contrail no longer makes me wonder.
