Punakha Dzong Palace

We passed the „Palace of great hapiness“ (in the blip) while driving to our next destination in the Punakha Valley (down from approx. 3‘000 metres to 1‘500). The visit of the palace is planned for tomorrow.

Today‘s highlight was the short hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, a temple built (completed in 1999) to bring peace to the world (in the extras). We passed terraced rice paddies with beautiful autumn colours. Because we were travelling relatively late, we were the only guests up in the temple area and a nice monk let us in and we were allowed to climb up to the viewing terrace in the semi-darkness, with a wonderful view of the area.
