Phainopepla

A Phainopepla is a shiny black bird, smaller than a cardinal, but having a similar crest on its head.  Unfortunately, the crest was lying flat at the moment I snapped the photo. I haven't noticed one in my yard for years. It was sitting way up high on my neighbor's ocotillo so it's been cropped to death. Considering that, it didn't turn out so bad.
