Caribbean colour
Exploring our nearby parts of Brisbane today, we came across many Poinciana trees (Delonix regia) coming into flower. I read that the tree is named in honour of French nobleman Phillippe de Longvilliers de Poincy who was governor of the colony of St Christopher (St Kitts) in the Caribbean in the mid 1600s. Curiously, the tree originates in Madagascar, not the Caribbean - one of botany's little mysteries!
