Back to the warm grey murkiness today but a nice early skype with Joe in New Zealand - well evening for him. He had been busy planting an edible teepee and a pomegranate bush and was now thinking about a kiwi vine. Hopefully his garden will be in full summery flourish when we visit in January.
Talking of full summery flourish, this little yellow flag suddenly popped out in the pond - er, way out of its usual season.
Last night's zoom on Irish mythology was very interesting though I find it hilarious that you can see everyone and everyone can see you and people forget this and loom in odd positions, pick their noses, slurp their teas and generally look odd - I am no exception I'm sure! The theme tonight was the arrival of the Milesains/Celts who appeared from somewhere, possibly Spain, and were highly cultivated but mad fierce! Having introduced themselves politely to the resident Tuatha de Danaan they then won a seemingly impossible challenge and insisted on taking Ireland for themselves. The de Danaan said fair win and wafted down bearing flowers and gifts but then the Milesians forgot themselves and the battle warp came upon them and they slaughtered everyone. When they recovered from the battle warp they were horrified at what they had done but feeling a bit tired(!) they covered the bodies with their cloaks and resolved to bury them the next day then went for a sleep. When they woke up of course there were no bodies! The de Danaan, a magical, mystical lot at the best of times, had vanished into the otherworld, where they still remain today - known and respected as the Good People fairies. and still occasionally encountered but always acknowledged.
Working on a blog today and I keep on disappearing down fascinating rabbit holes tracking lost bullauns/fonts in fields and marvelling at the complex network of early saints - they are all connected!
