Yikes!
Big exam this morning which went mostly smoothly though we did have a number of 'lost' students which caused a temporary but stressful headache for F. Resolved reasonably quickly but not before stress levels had rocketed for some. All good in the end though. I had arrived at the exam feeling a tad nauseous and with a bit of a gippy tummy. I managed my way through the exam OK until about 11.30am when I seriously considered throwing the towel in and heading home. I didn't though.........I found things to do to keep my mind off how I was feeling and slowly the clock ticked on.
At about 12.15, G, a senior manager at school, appeared in the hall, approached me and whispered "Come with me.....your car's on fire in the car park."
G always has a smile on his face and delivered this message with his usual expression.
"Yeah.....right...." I said, waving him away.
"No....seriously.......come with me....."
It took another round of whispers before I hesitantly followed him out of the hall half expecting to see that he'd had some students wash my car for me or something equally sweet and positive but nooooooo.........smoke was rising out from the partly open windows, 2 or 3 people were spraying fire hydrants at it and small crowds were gathering.......
The long and the short of it turned out to be a lithium laptop battery that I'd left on the passenger seat to remind me to take it to the Post Office to return to supplier........and that is a whole other story that I may tell tomorrow.
I then spent a very frustrating half hour on phone to insurance to get the car towed off school grounds. I was concerned that curious kids would get too close to what had been a toxic event and their health and safety could be put at risk. It eventually happened and was moved by a local salvage company.....
What a day! On the positive side, I didn't once think again about how unwell I'd felt earlier!!
