Built as a garment factory ...
... in 1916. The Wallace Scott and Company Tailoring Institute, Cathcart, Glasgow was designed by Sir J J Burnet. It employed over 800 people mostly women making clothes for the department stores of RW Forsyth in Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. Sadly the factory closed in the 1950s and the building became the headquarters of Scottish Power. It was vacated by the company in recent years and has now been converted to residential use. Additional homes have been built on adjoining land that was the gardens, tennis courts, bowling green and sports ground provided for workers.
The building is B listed.
