Alert
I can maintain my equilibrium if I get a reasonable nights' sleep, but last night Spike had one of his episodes...pacing, scratching up all his rugs, plus the bath mats, jumping on and off our bed, and generally unable to settle . John wasn't much help, mumbling something unintelligible and going back to sleep, but there wasn't really much he could do. He did finally take him outside in near freezing 3am temperatures, but didn't realize that I had already broken down and sedated him (Spike, not John). He took credit for the fact that Spike finally came back inside and fell asleep. No such luck for me.
A glance at the newspaper was enough to wreck my delicately balanced equilibrium. We cheered up a bit when the whole group showed up at Trail House. We seem to have an unspoken pact not to discuss the elephant in the room or the fact that he seems to be thumbing his nose at everybody with his appointments, choosing the most dramatically and shockingly unqualified people. An anti-vaxxer for the Department of Health and Human Services and a congressman under investigation for the Justice Department. It's not surprising that he wants to get rid of the department of education. To make matters, or at least my mood, worse, the dishwasher wouldn't turn on again.
We were going to take Spike to the newly discovered park with his new ball but he was still a bit groggy and the grass would have been very wet, do. We picked up my printed pattern from JIm on the way home. Dana, he reported, was a 'black hole' and had gone out for a run.
We decided to take Spike down to the bridge where we could throw his ball for him. The two young deer in my post were crossing the street when we rounded the corner. They paused for a moment, then sprang ober the fence and stopped on the other side to watch us. They are such graceful creatures. they don't just jump over the fence they effortlessly soar over it . A moment of grace and a reminder that life goes on.
I had to drive across town to the dermatology clinic to get the stitches taken out of my elbow. It took me 20 minutes to get there and the same to get home. I waited twenty minutes and it took five to take the stitches out and put a bandaid on. Next time I will take them out myself.
Our neighbors are coming over for drinks soon and I said I'd make some deviled eggs. The didn't peel easily not did the whites hang together too well, but I managed to glue them together with the filling, wander around with a dust cloth and mop and clean the guest bathroom. Distraction can be a good thing but it can also be, well distracting.
Spike seems fine again. We are still none the wiser as to why this happens to him a couple of times a year, or even what part of his anatomy is bothering him.
