I Shan't Complain

I am sure I've used this blip title before but it seems more apt this time.

We booked tickets for King Creosote at The Usher Hall in April this year, our 4th time seeing him in the past year since he hinted he may be dropping the alias, so obviously looking forward to it, then an hour before we saw we had seats in the 3rd row rather than standing, so added bonus... getting old you know...

We enjoyed the support act Emily Barker, but there was the odd buzz every so often. KC was due to come on at 8.45pm but that time went by, we could see someone on the phone pointing a torch at a box of lights, but they did come on about 9pm.

Within a couple of songs, that buzzing noise came back but it started to get worse. They took 5 mins to try and fix it with no luck. Do we want the show go on... yes we said, but then there was a bigger break after a couple of songs so he took a few of the band members on a walk round the ailses playing as they went, to give more time for a fix, but no. They decided the keyboards were the cause, so they played a song just with the acoustic instruments, nope. Kenny then sang one of his songs with alternate words, made up on the spot, saying they were going to have to stop, we could get our money back, or we could come back on the 7th December. They then sat at the front of the stage and played one more song with no PA and then it was over.

Although a home gig would be Crail in Fife, this was effectively the closest big theatre home gig, so it was important to them and the stress and disappointment they must have felt must have been big. However the way Kenny overcame this was impressive and always with humour and respect. And I don't know how in the space of say 15 minutes, they were able to replan it at such a big venue so quickly, our tickets will still count, sadly Mrs C is Christmas Partying but Ms H has volunteered to join me (she does like him too!).

So referencing the lyrics to my favourite song from his last album I Des, Blue Marbled Elm Trees, about his own future funeral, "I Shan't Complain".

PS. I'll never complain, he's a good guy :-)
