Spooky Saturday

Ms Simmo is one of my very best friends. She’s been there with me through thick and thin, never judging my many misguided actions and always willing to lend an ear.

Despite all this, there is a reason that she is not my actual very best friend and that is because she will continue to insist on meeting first thing in the morning. 9.15am on a child-free Saturday morning she had me drive to hers. It’s a disgrace!

I couldn’t be too made at her though, the views from atop Orrest Head were worth it (extra), we got to walk in the sunshine, and the dark orange hot chocolate (whoops, I did it again - also extra) with popcorn ganache smothered banana bread on the side were to die for. Yeah, she’s alright, I guess…

I returned home for some snacks and a crash out in front of the fire to the surprisingly good Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Not long after I was out under the Beaver Moon to join a group who were escorted around town by these two characters (aka. Simon & Rosie); creators and proprietors of Kendal Ghost Walks. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but what I got was a surprising history of Kendal’s industrial past and how misadventures through that industry created ghostly echoes through time, whose sights, sounds and smells still linger to this very day.

It’s a great idea and Simon and Rosie do an excellent job of setting the scene on the spooky walk around the town. I now know why a horseshoe was left outside the front of my house and no, it wasn’t just for luck……

So well organised is the event, that the walk finishes at a pub!
