Gently down the stream

Hornet in hiding

We had some lovely sun during the second half of the morning so I took the camera out towards the water meadows.  The bird life was a bit hidden, but I did see a red admiral in flight, then a wasp that I thought might make a shot depending where it landed.  Well it came down by a small hole in the trunk of a hawthorn tree, took one look at the face peering out (see extras) then zoomed off, leaving me to watch the hornet emerging.  I have to say that however much you may feel prejudiced against them, they are very handsome insects.

The rest of the day has been quiet and cold - not as cold as it's going to get, but cold enough for me!

Have a happy evening  xx
