First local transmitter
One of over 300 info boards across the city of Leicester, but this is probably my favourite.
BBC Radio Leicester first launched at 12:45 on 8th November 1967 on 95.05 VHF from the site located behind the board making it the very first local radio station in the country. The info board describes how the station went county-wide from a much higher site at Copt Oak in 1989 when it also switched on 104.9 where its been ever since. Now of course, this former radio broadcast facility is a super high capacity mobile phone mast.
