Scammel Highwayman

Becks was one of the big guns in heavy haulage until the mid 70's when they wound up the business and retired to the Isle Of Man but there trucks stood out amongst any others with their Primrose Yellow livery which stuck a cord with my dad being a Warrington Wires (Rugby Leauge) fan whose colours are commonly known as the Primrose & Blue.

Becks had massive contracts with the USAF Burtonwood and another truck company Seddon delivery turck chassis plus the ongoing demolition and construction business across the north west. They had bases in Manchester, London, Wolverhampton and Glasgow delivering transformers and the such as part of the National Grid construction.
This blip is about as close as you'd want to get (especially if driving) of a Scammel Highwayman
This vehicle was not one of Becks originals, first registered in 1955 Reg No UXP 110 was originally a tanker tractor unit operated by Manbre & Garton a company specialising in sugars and glucose for breweries but the livery of Becks & Sons gives it more street cred than the blue & red colurs it used to run in.
As a kid I used to have a match box toy of a newer version of a Scammel pulling a trailer with a Cat dozer on the back of it (if only I had that now think of the money) it was painted up as Laing Construction who were one of the construction companies who split Becks assets apart when it was wound up.
