Mauve

As we walked to a nearby coffee shop this morning, this mauve bougainvillea - a subtler colour than many - demanded a photograph.

Quoting Wikipedia, the plant is named after seafarer Louis-Antoine, Comte de Bougainville, a French military officer, explorer and nobleman. He was a contemporary of the British explorer James Cook who circumnavigated the globe in a scientific expedition in 1766-69. During this voyage, the plant named Bougainvillea was first collected in Brazil and named by the French botanist, Commerson, who sailed with Bougainville.
