The "Great" Barrier Reef

Today was our sail out to the outer reef to spend some time snorkeling. It was a truly fabulous day. I'd scuba dived and snorkeled in spectacular reefs lots of times when I was young, but the barrier reef is something special and we were given lots of interesting information about the formation, biology and ecology of the reef. A memorable day.
We were taken and unloaded on to one of the many small sandbank islands and there were lots of terns on the sandbank. I think this is a Roseate tern.
