Baubles and Bad Taste

This was such a good day to make a foray into town for a slightly belated birthday brunch with the Merry Widows at  Browns in George Street; a good day because it was unbelievably cold outside and Brown’s was warm and toasty.
I was treated to a very delicious vegetarian breakfast which included avocado, flat mushrooms and poached eggs. The sun shone as I walked the length of George Street which has been transformed from being the street with the elegant shops into another theme park for the Christmas and New Year shenanigans with temporary  buildings being erected in the middle of the road one of which is an indoors skating rink. There seems no limit to the destruction of the appeal of this old historic city in the greed for money and the lust for an ever increasing number of tourists.

As I made my way home avoiding the case pullers, tourists and Christmas Market visitorsthe sun disappeared and it felt even more wintry.  I might have to don my heated gilet and put on the heating. I hope this spell of cold weather is only temporary……….
