Black sheep

It’s strange what comes to mind when out walking with Luce. I wondered how the expression “black sheep of the family” arose. I suspect many will know but I didn’t so looked it up.

Apparently it’s because the wool will not dye which was a disappointment and thus is less valuable than white fleece. The term has been in use since the mid 1600’s!
