Battle Flags of HMS Nelson at Burnham Thorpe

These are the battle flags of HMS Nelson the Second World War battle ship, that were laid up - appropriately enough - in Burnham Thorpe Church in Norfolk.

Burnham Thorpe is where Nelson's father, Rev Edmund Nelson was vicar and where Horatio Nelson was born and grew up.

HMS Nelson was launched in 1927 and was of a unique design under the Washignton Treaty with 9 16inch guns in 3 turrets ahead of the main superstructure. She was flag ship of the Home Fleet and served in Home waters, the Mediterranean, supported the D Day landings and then went to the Far East.
