Back home again
I set off from Hampton at 9.51 this morning - quite a dull start. Took the Tube from Vauxhall to Euston and snapped a few pictures in Euston Square in case nothing else cropped up - my Blip today. I went into the station and found my seat on the 11.30am train to Glasgow Central.
The journey through Englandshire was uneventful and rather gloomy, but some five minutes after leaving Carlisle the transformation was almost unbelievable! Suddenly the mist was down to the hilltops, and the entire landscape, from the fields, the shrubs, the tallest trees and the buildings was totally covered in frost. I'd seen many frosty landscapes before, but this was out of this world, absolutely magical, completely mind-blowing. My camera was in my bag up on the rack, but even if I'd taken it down I don't think I could have captured anything worth seeing, what with the trees in the foreground, the dirty windows and the speed of the train. I wish now that I'd tried, but will have to be content with the memory. Looking round at my fellow travellers, all engaged with their phones or their newspapers, I felt like shouting 'Look out of the windows and you'll see something very special', but didn't of course! I shall certainly never forget it.
After a long and tiring journey I arrived on time in Oban and Mrs M was there to pick me up. It was good to get home and put the kettle on! A wonderful week, but I think I'd rather have driven!
