Know your trees.

Took the car in for service this morning. Two hours to wait but fortunately there is a quiet country lane just round the corner so a two mile walk was embarked upon.

Part way along we came to this conifer with attractive cones. Some sort of Pine. But my followers know well that we would want a more precise identification.
A bit of research tells us that it is Eastern Hemlock ( Tsuga canadensis ).

Native to Eastern Canada and the North Eastern USA and introduced into Europe.
An identifying feature is that the cones grow hanging from the end of a twig rather than coming of the sides.
It is not poisonous and indeed is used to make a rather nice tea.

Back to the car showroom for free coffee and a nice chat with our friendly salesman who has sold us six cars in the past 26 years. He madeus a very special offer but our advanced years means we cannot be tempted any more.
