Feeding Frenzy
It being the first snow of winter/autumn and very cold out, I was determined to catch up on housework, namely the bathroom (aaarrrggh!) today, but what with one thing and another: watching the birds on the feeders; packing up my jigsaw; storing the apple press; having morning coffee; putting away the groceries; looking at the snowy outdoors; doing my puzzles.....the bathroom cleaning sort of slipped off the list. I did do a pretty good job of tidying the study though. We call it that because it was once the workroom (and the band practice room when Heatsink were in action) and it sounds posher than downstairs room.
Mid afternoon, as the sun finally appeared, I decided I should get some air as I had intended going out for a run but convinced myself it might be treacherous underfoot (it wasn't), so a loop of the pond it would be. I am glad I took duck food and sunflower seeds with me as the waterfowl were very hungry. I guess not many folks who normally feed them huge chunks of loaf (despite the polite signs saying please don't) had ventured out in this first icy blast. The swans were conspicuous by their absence, but as I walked along the track heading home I spotted them in the trees being fed mixed nuts and seeds by a young couple who were surrounded by ducks, swans and squirrels. Apparently, they feed them regularly and are spotted arriving. I missed out on an amazing blip when all of the mallards took off at once back to the pond, so this one will have to do.
It sounded like Euan was very excited to be walking to school in the snow this morning.
