Curioso
Well, I could have blipped the crowd for the switching on of the lights, but I restrained myself. It was cold and clear today, and there was probably a good crowd in the end, but I managed to get away reasonably early so that there were not yet too many in Old College. There were, however, no barriers to entry at all, so I can only assume that requiring people to sign up and then telling them it is full actually restrains people from piling into OC.
Another day of meetings. The atmosphere is a bit muted as a result of yesterday's publicity. I've known this (i.e. staff reductions, at least in general terms) was coming for quite some time, and I've known there was going to be a voluntary severance scheme for a week, but it seems that the announcement of the scheme inside the institution was hastily brought forward as there was about to be media coverage. An all-staff teams meeting brought small quantities of further illumination today: there is a scheme and a timescale, but no further details..... But it is clear that people are anxious and worried about things, and I really don't blame them.
Anyway, on a day of uncertainty I went with an old familiar: a leithwalkshop.
