Horticultural As Therapy
Defence Gardens Scheme
A national network of gardens which host the delivery and evaluation of nature-based therapy for Armed Forces Service Leavers and Veterans and their families.
The Vounder Therapy Garden is a horticultural therapy programme run by the Eden Project, it uses horticulture and gardening to provide weekly sessions to support individuals
Set up as a space to garden if you want, if you don't, it's a space to just be. It's not focused on growing the perfect vegetables, or sowing the perfect lines. It's a space away from the everyday, run by horticultural therapists who provide the freedom, headspace and support to nurture positive life-changing impacts.
Nature can focus the mind and ground us in ways that are proven to help with lots of mental illness, trauma or simply improve our well being.
Every action has a reaction and whatever action it was that brought us to the garden, the re-action is nothing but positive. I spend Tuesdays enjoying my day and have relearnt the power of growing, the power of nature and the positive effects the outside can have.
Today was mostly spent sat at the table outside learning to strip secateurs, service and sharpen them, clean and care for the tools we use each week and generally chit-chat.
