Shattered To Fragments
Possibly a quote from the likes of Mrs McKitty a punctilious neighbour of Maisie from Morningside, however it does echo my discovery when going out to refresh the small birdbath, which was frozen solid.
The green globe was one of a set of three including this red one, used to irrigate a plant pot. I blame the removal of this plant from its protected space by the shed to full exposure to the elements, namely, severe frost over three nights and days. I hadn't thought to rescue the globe and it is now an ex-globe with its many resulting parts spread over a surprisingly wide area. I have picked up many thin shards but the other parts are still firmly attached to the path by a block of ice. I shall need to be particularly careful when going to the bird feeder.
The third in the set has now been brought indoors, having survived by its being empty but next time we paint the shed I shall insist on plants being returned to their appointed space as soon as the paint is dry.
