Getting Home

Our journey home went very well, better than expected really. We set off from the hotel near Arlanda about 10 o'clock and drove home almost non-stop, getting home about 2:30. There were flurries of snow from the start and heavier snow as we got nearer to home but it mostly felt fine to drive through, and we got home before the real storm arrived. We were very pleased to have our winter tyres on though!
There were about 15 cm of snow on our paths and a couple of hours later our neighbour cleared it away up to the house with his tractor. In the picture he has done the clearing and is backing away  towards The Red House.
Shortly after this picture was taken we headed back into town to eat dinner with Rose and then watch the Italian film "There's still tomorrow" - "C'è ancora domani". Here's Peter Bradshaw's Guardian review.
We really enjoyed the film,  which blended serious themes with comedy.
As we drove back into town the storm was really getting into its stride with heavy snow and gusting winds. On the way home the snow had stopped but the wind was becoming spectacular, picking up the snow from the ground and whirling it through the air. Drifts were forming across the roads.
The white winter seems to have arrived in our area this same day we get home from the UK. There's a lot of snow forecast for tomorrow so we've stocked up on everything we need and can stay home. Will it stay to spring? It could do....
