HOSPITAL
Today was my appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to see the consultant about my osteoporosis. The appointment was for 4pm so I had time to do some chores at home before I set off.
Got a bus to Gateshead and then another bus to the hospital. My appointment was in the Windy Nook part of the hospital. (The place Windy Nook got its name because of the " lofty and exposed nature of the situation it occupies".)
I got to the waiting area at around 3.45pm but I wasn't seen by the consultant until 4.30pm. I was the last patient. I'm going to put down here what he told me but its really for my benefit so I have a record.... feel free to disregard.
The consultant told me I needed another DEXA bone scan to see what effect the injections I have been giving myself for the past year have had on my bone density. Now that I'm not having those injections there are two treatments to choose going forward. One is to have an infusion once a month. The other is to have under the skin injections administered by a doctor --- once every 6 months ( on the dot ) for 3 years. He recommended the second option as it gives a better result. And due to my extra crumbly bones I need the best option. The first injection will need to be done at the hospital but the others can be done at my local health centre. So I'm just waiting to hear when I need to go back for the scan and for the first injection. Before I left I had some blood taken.
Got a bus back to Gateshead and did some shopping in the big Tesco there before getting another bus home.
The weather today was bitterly cold. No snow here but up at Windy Nook there was a bit and the paths were icy in places.
Took my blip shot as I walked past the hospital. The Wide Wednesday theme is ' straight '. There's a straight chimney, straight lampposts, straight wall and the tops of the buildings are straight. Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting.
