Bangkok guided tour!
What a day! Our tour guide, Elena, picked us up from the hotel at 8am, and we were on the go till about 2pm. On the go in 30° heat.
Elena showed us the proposed tour, indicating the Grand Palace, and what a huge area it was… I may have looked a teensy bit worried, but gave in to the offer of the use of a wheelchair. Well, - I’ve already given in at airports, so I’m adding Grand Palaces to my list of assistances. And yes, it was a sensible decision, because it meant I could climb up to the Golden Mountain later.
First we took the river taxi down to the Grand Palace. It was MOBBED! And full of fantastical buildings and statues. We went into a couple of temples, with the usual shammozzle of taking shoes off, then finding a seat to put them back on again. My feet swell in the heat, so don’t want to go back into shoes… So I was absolutely DELIGHTED, and insisted on a photo (unusual) when we came to a sign instructing us NOT to take shoes off!!
Elena gave us lots and lots of information., none of which, sadly, I have retained well enough to pass on to you. It’s such a fascinating country, with people from every South East Asian country having made it their home for centuries.
Tuk tuk to the next destination - The Golden Mountain. With 344 steps up. Another place where I insisted on a photo! (Extra) Fortunately, the steps were low, and there was a hand rail.
Taxi home from there, and we headed straight to the pool.
After a rest, we’re heading out again to an evening market nearby. This holiday lark sure is tiring!!
PS It is such a pleasure to have decent WiFi again! I can even add Extras!
