Back and Forth thru time

The Little Things

Evening all.

The mantra for this little jaunt is an accepting shrug of the shoulders, followed by a slight sigh and then a "we're in Africa" which seems to help when things go slightly awry.

Not very awry i hasten to add, just little things which you learn very quickly to accept as part and parcel of a different way of life.

Power cuts seem to be the norm, we had five on the first day in Mombassa but found out that this was a good day for Kenya's power supply.

We settled down to an evenings televisiual entertainment which started with the children's film 'flushed away', then when that finished, the children's film "flushed away" began (again), then when that finished the children's film "flushed away" began (again again), then when that finished the children's film "flushed away....oh you get the picture.

I paid for something in a shop with my credit card and the man got one of those counterfoil things out that they used to copy credit cards with in the eighties, then brass rubbed it with the side of a coin.

the internet remains a source of mystery to me and i suspect some of the hotel staff, they give me a little chitty which costs me £5 and direct me to an on site internet cafe, but there doesn't seem to be any computers in there at all, not a one, unless they're very small or invisible.

and when i went into a high class lavvy, did my business and turned round to press the flush button which was built into the wall above the plan, to see it fall out when i pressed it, unit, button, electrical wires and all, straight into the bowl in a shower of sparks and poo poo, i just shrugged, and said:

"well, we're in Africa" and i have to say its bloody good fun so far!!

night all
