Apples and Oranges

By Anitsirk

The day after the storm and my bus came, a bit late, but still...it came! I had to hurry through the forest because I was late and didn't know how much I was going to be 'plowing' through snow the last bit. I had to, and it went over my boots, but I had a good speed so the snow wasn't able to reach into my boots.

At work I felt a bit irritated and stingy... especially when one of my coworkers was wining about yesterday and how he didn't get to work because of the cancelled busses. I told him that I knew it was going to snow, so I got up a bit earlier and searched for information and was able to get to a bus and come to work, a bit late but still. He continued to wine, and I told him that he'd know how to do this for next time.
The rest of the day got better. I had a good chat with my boss, who told me I could delegate things and that I also could skip things. I had so much to do!
I started with stamping labels. Then the teacher came for a visit, wanting to send me the video of the silk tissue paper roses, and when she was doing that, I went to get my tries (fails)... my horrible little red roses... She thought them lovely (but, they aren't!), another coworker came and said the same (they truly aren't!) and she (the coworker) then joked with me that they are awful! I laughed with her and said 'finally someone who sees it!', the third coworker thought them lovely too and I just couldn't believe why they said that! No. really... the roses aren't good! I'm ashamed of them... But, I did ask the coworker (let's call her 'I' ) joking that they're not good, to try them instead. 'I'agreed and we started talking about how I did mine and the process and what she could do instead of what I did, and I came back to her a couple of times and her rose is gorgeous! She's going to attempt to create a larger one, and I can give my roses to the bin... Yay!! :D
Time flew... and I hurried to stamp my tags, try new stamps, try different inks and papers, and then put it all away to dry.
Then the boss from another group came and ask for some nails. I told him to go to the carpentry workshop in the basement, and my boss heard him and said he could just go down there and ask. He came back with three, and we joked it's Friday, that's why the coworkers down there were so nice and gave him three. Then he asked me about a special kind of wooden fir coworkers had made, and after looking and asking around we found them in Greenhouse 1. The coworker who'd made them said there were some smaller things still to be done to them, and the boss asked if we could put it away for him to buy when the stuff was done. I said sure, no problem! Went to put a tag on it and the boss followed me out and we joked about it being Friday again. We always joke and banter, in a friendly fun way. :)

I sat down to drink my smoothie and continue with my snowmen. Only a couple of more heads to needle felt and then I was done with that part. Suddenly I heard a voice behind me, a customer asking about a wreath, and as I turned around I saw a friend of mine and her mum. :) I went to give her a hug and say hi to her mum. We started as coworkers at a large company, I was in the switchboard and she was with another part of the company. I don't remember how we became friends, but we did and have been a long time. It was really nice to see her and to show her around the greenhouses. She's been here before, and always when I wasn't there. I told her a bit about the mechanics of the Greenhouses and she bought a wreath, two small poinsettias, another Christmas flower and a bunch of pots. I helped carrie some pots to the cash register while she and her mum looked some more at the pots.
The boss (the one with the nails and the wooden fir) stood doing something and we started talking again. This time about the snowstorm yesterday. Then something nice and heartwarming happened... he lowered his voice and said 'You've been gone for a while, I haven't seen you' I told him (a bit surprised) that I'd only been away Monday and Tuesday this week... He didn't have time to say something more because my friend and her mother came, so he quickly gathered his things and went. It felt nice, and a bit surprising, to be seen (if you know what I mean?) by someone who isn't my coworker directly.
I talked to my friend and her mother some more, and they payed and my friend told me she'd try to get here on the extra opening hours we have coming and next Wednesday. I hope so, so good to see her!
Then another nice thing happened when I was needle felting my last snowman head (snow ball). One of the bosses came to me and said that she thought I'd mentored the new coworker very nicely. She thought it nice that I'd taken care of her. I said thank you, but I didn't think I'd done something special... I know she, the new coworker 'I', is good with her hands and artistic, so why not ask her if she'd like to try something I failed at? No brainer, but it felt nice nonetheless, to be acknowledge for it, even if I didn't seek acknowledgement for it. If you get what I mean?
When my time was up, I felt my brain was ok and asked my boss if I could stay for 30 more minutes (since I need to do some overtime to get the hours I need for my Christmas days off. She said yes, if I felt up for it, and I went to create some new tags from coloured sturdy paper. After I'd drawn the tag shapes on the paper, I stamped the tags with equally amount of two different stamps and 1 tag with a different stamp (the one I'd carved). When the half hour was almost done I cleared my things and put it in a little basked I keep on the desk I work at.
I wished my bossed a nice weekend and when I left work I didn't slip and fall (Yay!!), but managed to stay on my feet, plow through the snow and into the forest. The sun was up and warm in the chilly air. It felt so peaceful and I knew this photo had to be my blip for today. :)
