The River Cafe Cafe
V and I took the day off, I know, again! That’s gardening leave for you. We went to Hammersmith to meet our friend Susannah in the River Cafe Cafe. A more casual adjunct to the famous restaurant (‘look at all those people going in looking smug’, said V) it was nevertheless quite pricey. But delicious. We walked down the Thames path to get there and it was bright and crisp and cold. The tide was out and Hammersmith bridge shone in the sun.
We separated after lunch and I went over to the estate agents that manages my London house let and picked up a misdirected parcel. It was bittersweet to be back in the neighbourhood and I kept texting V news of which shops were still open, and what new arrivals there were. Gails! How many outlets have they opened?
I then caught the bus into the West End and went on a fruitless search for something (shh Christmas) in a couple of places before meeting Manda for birthday dinner in Mews House. We had a wonderful early evening, I missed the 9pm train by a whisker but was on the 9.30 and watched another ep of The Listeners on the way home.
