Tree Marking

The positive side of me would I’d like to think this is a mark for tree surgeon. The less generous side of me wonders if it might be graffiti - on a tree?

I generally don’t have an issue with graffiti - mark making can voice political views or societal frustration but - on a tree? There were lots of examples of badly designed street furniture nearby which could have been highlighted.
