Sunset Warrior
It was nearly a photographic disaster day.
Ahead of Storm Bert a bright if cold day was forecast for Portsmouth. and with an annual dockyard pass still hiding in my emails, I decided on a day out.
HMS Warrior was resplendent in the morning sun, so I dug out the camera for the first shot of the day ... only to receive the dreaded "No Card in Camera" message. A dig around the bag didn't uncover a spare - sob! I headed into Gunwarf Quay to try to buy one, but with no luck. So resigned myself to a day lugging the camera around (the car was in the P&R miles away) and using the phone. At least it was only the little Olympus, so not too weighty.
In the event I had a wonderful day mainly exploring the HMS Victory and related museums. Victory is currently undergoing a massive restoration programme, so many of the displays have been removed for safety and others under cover with a restricted route round with in the company of an extremely knowledgeable tour guide and maybe half dozen others. This was probably far more interesting than a "free-flow" visit in the height of the season! I did take a few iPhone images (which didn't come out bad considering the low light levels), but otherwise just enjoyed the experience.
I left the dockyard around sunset and was presented with this image of the setting sun just catching HMS Warrior in its light.
Not such a photographic disaster after all.
